Prominent Islamic Woman Leader, Alhaja Aishat Abdul-Lateef, Dies in Ado Ekiti

The Muslim community in Ekiti State has been thrown into mourning following the death of a respected Islamic leader, Alhaja Aishat Abdul-Lateef, popularly known as Iya Sunna Ekiti State General.

Alhaja Abdul-Lateef passed away in the early hours of Saturday, June 20, 2026, after a lifetime of dedicated service to Islam and humanity.

Her death was announced by family members and associates, who described her as a devoted Muslim, community leader, and mother figure whose contributions to the growth of Islam in Ekiti State will remain indelible.

Widely respected across the state, the late Alhaja Abdul-Lateef was known for her commitment to Islamic teachings, humanitarian activities, and her role in mentoring women and young Muslims.

According to the family, her Janazah (Islamic funeral prayer) was held on Sunday at her residence behind Captain Cook Textile Road, Ado Ekiti, where sympathisers gathered to pay their final respects.

Tributes have continued to pour in from Islamic scholars, community leaders, and well-wishers, who remembered her as a woman of faith, humility, and service.

She is survived by children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other family members.

May Allah forgive her shortcomings and grant her Al-Jannah Firdaus.
