BREAKING: Oyo pupils, teachers regain freedom weeks after abduction

The pupils and teachers who were kidnapped from three schools in the Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom.

The development was disclosed on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

On 15 May 2026, heavily armed gunmen attacked the schools and kidnapped dozens of students and staff.

Following the incident, Nigerians demanded their rescue from both the state and federal governments.

While updating netizens on the situation, Onanuga announced that the victims had finally been released by their abductors.

Taking to his verified social media handle, he wrote: “Finally, the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been freed by their abductors.”

As of the time of filing this report, details surrounding their release—including whether a ransom was paid or the exact circumstances leading to their freedom—had yet to be disclosed.
