The students and teachers of an Oyo secondary school who were abducted on May 15 have regained their freedom.

The victims were released on Friday, about 55 days after they were kidnapped from Ahoro-Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The victims — 46 pupils, teachers, and the principal — were abducted when heavily armed gunmen invaded the community, sparking nationwide concern.

The ordeal took a tragic turn days after the abduction when one of the kidnapped teachers, Michael Oyedokun, was reportedly beheaded by the abductors.

In a video of the freed school children and teachers, they were full of gratitude to President Bola Tinubu. Although authorities have yet to disclose details of how the release was secured.
