Troops of 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under the 2 Division, have rescued two kidnap victims following a rapid response operation to a kidnapping incident in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The victims, identified as Mrs. Adekemi Idowu and her six-month-old child, were rescued after terrorists abducted five members of a family during an attack on a residence near Solid Rock School in Ijalu, Egbe, on the night of June 3, 2026.
The Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday disclosed that troops swiftly mobilised after receiving a distress call and collaborated with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) to track the kidnappers along their escape route.
Abdullahi revealed sustained pressure mounted by the security team reportedly forced the terrorists to abandon the woman and her infant near the Oro axis before fleeing into nearby bushes.
According to him, the rescued victims were safely reunited with their family, while troops have continued intensive search and rescue operations aimed at securing the release of the remaining abductees and apprehending the perpetrators.
He reaffirmed Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and called on members of the public to support ongoing security operations with timely and credible information.
He also assured residents that efforts were being intensified by the military to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining victims and restore confidence within affected communities.
