The founder and leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church in Oke Afa, Lagos, Primate Elijah Ayodele, criticized first lady Remi Tinubu for giving cars to women in the All Progressives Congress while national attention was focused on kidnapped schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo state. Ayodele said the action could cost her husband, President Bola Tinubu, the 2027 election.
On June 2, the first lady donated cars to APC women leaders in five states during the inauguration of Tinubu Torchbearers, a pro-Tinubu support group, at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja.
The beneficiaries were APC women leaders in Abia, Anambra, Bauchi, Osun and Oyo states.
In a sharp rebuke, Ayodele called the action reckless and said it could cost President Tinubu the 2027 election.
The cleric said the first lady could have shown solidarity with Nigerians distressed by the kidnapping, “even if it meant pretending.”
He said: “Remi Tinubu, you did not behave like a mother at all. You should have done what Jonathan’s wife did in 2014, even if it meant to pretend. You never protested to demand the safe return of kidnapped Oyo schoolchildren. Instead, you were busy distributing cars to APC women leaders. You will make Tinubu lose 2027 elections. I’ll tell you the truth.”
