The Kogi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a primary school teacher, Maryam Usman, who was assaulted after disciplining a pupil in Olamaboro Local Government Area of the state.

The incident, which has been classified as a case of culpable homicide, was reported at the Olamaboro Divisional Headquarters on June 25, 2026.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Oyiza Salisu Afusat, said preliminary investigations revealed that the teacher was attacked at Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School, Ugbamaka.

According to the police, on June 18, 2026, one Abdullahi Ishaka, accompanied by two women, stormed the school and assaulted the teacher, who was identified as 30-year-old Maryam Usman.

The attack was reportedly linked to the teacher’s disciplinary action against a pupil.

“The victim sustained serious injuries and was initially treated at a hospital in Ugbamaka before being referred to Iko-Ojo Hospital, Okpo, for further medical attention. She, however, passed away on June 25, 2026,” the statement read.

Following the report, police operatives visited the scene of the incident and the deceased’s residence, where necessary documentation was carried out.

The command said arrangements were underway to move the remains of the deceased to the General Hospital, Ankpa, for medical examination and autopsy.

SP Afusat disclosed that the suspects fled the scene before the arrival of security operatives, adding that efforts were ongoing to track and arrest them.

She assured that once the suspects are apprehended, the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a detailed investigation.

The police command urged members of the public to support ongoing efforts by providing useful information that could assist in bringing those responsible to justice.
