THE Vcare for Development Foundation (VCDF), Delta Government and partners have intensified advocacy for voluntary blood donation to strengthen healthcare delivery and save lives.

The campaign marked the 2026 World Blood Donor Day celebration across Delta State.

It was supported by Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company Limited (SEEPCO), the Delta Ministry of Health and the Nigerian Red Cross Society.

Activities held on June 16 aligned with the global commemoration observed annually on June 14.

The campaign adopted the theme, “One Drop of Humanity: Give Blood, Save Lives.”
Awareness campaigns and blood donation drives were conducted across Delta’s three senatorial districts.

The activities also launched a one-month voluntary blood donation campaign in the state.

Donation exercises took place at the State Secretariat Clinic and Federal Medical Centre, Asaba.

Other centres included Central Hospital, Warri and Central Hospital, Ughelli.

Stakeholders stressed that voluntary, regular and unpaid blood donation remains the safest and most sustainable source of blood.

They noted that adequate blood supply supports emergency care, maternal health and treatment of sickle cell disorder.

The stakeholders said timely access to safe blood often determines survival during medical emergencies.

The Delta Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, described voluntary blood donation as vital to public health.

He thanked VCDF and partners for supporting life-saving healthcare initiatives across the state.

Participants said the campaign improved public awareness on blood donation and its benefits.

Many first-time donors expressed willingness to become regular blood donors.

The organisers said strong community participation was recorded across all campaign locations.

They urged sustained collaboration among government, civil society and the private sector.

VCDF reaffirmed commitment to leveraging SEEPCO’s corporate social responsibility investments to improve public health nationwide.
