A group of aggrieved youths in Ogbomoso, Osun State, has declared total shutdown of markets, workplaces, and roads from Monday in protest over the school teachers and students’ abduction in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The youths made the announcement during a protest across the town on Friday which marked the third week since the abduction of 39 students and seven teachers in Ahoro-Esinele Community High School, Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A Primary School.
Video shared on X showed the protesters charging residents to join the demonstration as they declared the total shutdown of trading activities across the town.
“There will be no trading on Monday across Ogbomoso. Everyone must come out.” One of the youths announced.
The development is coming amid ongoing agitation and intensified demand for the release of the kidnapped victims who are currently held captivity by suspected terrorists with the Old Oyo National Park since their abduction on the 15th of May 2026.
While the government had assured Nigerians of ongoing efforts in rescuing the victims, the prolonged stay of the vicitms in the forest had raised concerns and built pressure on the government.
