Solomon Dalung, former minister of Youth and Sports Development, in an interview with Arise TV on June 5, said the ruling All Progressives Congress, has no solution to insecurity in Nigeria.
The former minister said that the federal government has “completely and woefully” failed in tackling insecurity in the country.
He noted that Nigerians are determined to deal with insecurity, but the government does not have the political will to do so.
Dalung argued that the government has not effectively allocated its resources for the right purposes.
According to him, “They have all the gadgets to track anybody who criticises the government, they can pick him up in the next five minutes, but they don’t have equipment to track terrorists”.
Dalung’s remarks were made in response to the federal government’s #UniteAgainstTerror campaign.
The federal government called on Nigerians, the media, civil society organisations and security agencies to forge a united front against terrorism.
Mohammed Idris, the minister of Information and National Orientation, made the call on Thursday during a national press briefing in Abuja.
Dalung described the statement as “embarrassing, demoralising, uncalled for and an evidence of leadership failure.”
He further added that the missing link in the government’s strategy on handling insecurity is that there is no synergy between the security agencies, no coordinated strategy and no shared intelligence and an absence of a comprehensive approach to deal with the dynamics of terrorism.
Dalung urged communities to be proactive and take responsibility for their security because the government has failed to handle it.
