The Oyo State House of Assembly has revealed the demands of the suspected terrorists holding the abducted students and school teachers in captivity.
Debo Ogundoyin, the assembly’s Speaker, made the disclosure during the chamber’s plenary session on Wednesday.
While reiterating that effort is ongoing to secure the release of the vicitms, Ogundoyin highlighted some of the kidnappers’ demands.
The Oyo Assembly Speaker said the insurgents had demanded for weapons, undisclosed amount of money, and concession of future laws in the state.
He questioned the lawmakers if they will accept such demand if they were to be governor of the state.
“They are doing everything that is necessary for them to bring these children and teachers back. If it was up to you, will you negotiate with terrorists?
“If terrorists asked for weapons, money, concession of future laws of this land as part of their ransom, if you were the governor, will you accept that ransom.
“Will you accept that those people be integrated into that community?” He said.
Ogundoyin sued for calm as he ruled out the chances of negotiating with the terrorists.
“You don’t know the details. So please let’s be sensitive and calm. You don’t know the details. The more you negotiate with these people, the more you embolden them.” He said.
The Oyo Speaker further raised a motion for the rejection of negotiation calls which was supported by majority of the lawmakers.
While the demands of the kidnappers of the students and teachers were not explicitly revealed by the Oyo Assembly, some reports however claimed that the insurgents had demanded N1 billion ransom to be paid to a Benin Republic bank account.
They also allegedly demanded the release of their colleagues held in prison and two Hilux vans.
Also in the list of their demand before releasing the students and teachers kidnapped in Oriire Local Government Area is the amendment of certain Oyo State laws to suit their interests.
