THE Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has lauded the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, for the initiatives aimed at empowering young Nigerian girls with digital knowledge and skills in technology.
The Commission, in a statement shared on its official Facebook page on Friday, said that the minister’s efforts aligned with the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding opportunities for girls in Information and Communication Technology, ICT, and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, STEM, fields.
As part of the activities marking the 2026 National Girls in ICT Programme, the NCC hosted 185 female students from across the country on an educational tour of the National Communications Museum in Abuja.
The Commission explained that the visit offered the students a unique opportunity to learn about the history and evolution of telecommunications in Nigeria, while gaining exposure to the technologies that have shaped modern communication.
According to the NCC, the initiative is designed to inspire more girls to pursue careers in ICT and related fields by providing them with firsthand experiences that highlight the possibilities within the digital ecosystem.
The Commission noted that exposing young women to Nigeria’s communications heritage could help ignite their interest in innovation, creativity and technological advancement, encouraging them to become active contributors to the country’s growing digital economy.
It further emphasized that programmes such as the National Girls in ICT initiative remain critical to addressing gender disparities in technology and creating pathways for more girls to participate in the digital transformation agenda.
The National Girls in ICT Programme is part of broader efforts by the Federal Government and stakeholders in the communications sector to bridge the gender gap in technology, promote digital inclusion and equip young Nigerians with the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
