…lauds rescue of former minister’s sister, twin sons
THE Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) strongly condemns the gruesome killing of three personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) by suspected terrorists and bandits along the Tsamiya–Illo Road in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The murder of Deputy Chief Road Marshal Assistant Umar Aliyu, Senior Road Marshal Assistant Ezra Manu Gona, and Road Marshal Assistant I Mansur Ibrahim Nasir while carrying out their lawful duties represents yet another tragic reminder of the worsening security crisis confronting Nigeria. These patriotic officers were serving their fatherland when they were mercilessly hunted down and killed by armed criminals.
HURIWA describes this cowardly attack as an affront to the authority of the Nigerian state and a direct assault on public servants who daily put their lives on the line to ensure public safety. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the slain officers, the leadership of the FRSC, and the government and people of Kebbi State.
The prominent Pro-democracy and civil rights advocacy group HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA calls on the military, police, intelligence services, and other security agencies to intensify coordinated operations aimed at identifying, apprehending, and prosecuting the perpetrators of this heinous crime. Nigerians can no longer continue to live under the constant threat of terrorist attacks, kidnappings, and violent criminality.
HURIWA also commends the security agencies for the successful rescue of the younger sister of a former Minister of Power and her twin sons from the hands of kidnappers. The operation demonstrates that when security forces deploy intelligence-driven and coordinated strategies, positive outcomes are achievable.
While celebrating this success, HURIWA reminds the security establishment that several innocent citizens remain in captivity across different parts of the country. Of particular concern is the abduction of schoolchildren and their teachers in Oyo State. HURIWA insists that every available security resources must be deployed to secure their immediate and safe release.
HURIWA hereby calls on the relevant security authorities to ensure that the kidnapped schoolchildren and their teachers are rescued without delay.
The urgency of the situation cannot be overstated because prolonged captivity exposes the victims to severe physical, psychological, and emotional trauma. Swift action is necessary to prevent any irreversible harm from befalling these innocent children and their teachers.
The safety and security of Nigerian citizens remain the primary responsibility of government. We therefore urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and all security institutions to demonstrate unwavering commitment in defeating terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and other violent non-state actors threatening national stability.
Nigeria must not surrender any part of its territory or any segment of its population to criminal elements. The time for decisive, intelligence-led, and sustained action is now.
