THE Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) on Tuesday sealed off I-Fitness Gym located at Jakande Roundabout, Lekki Peninsula in Eti-Osa Local Government Area for allegedly discharging untreated sewage into public drainage channels.

The agency said the facility was shut down after it was discovered that raw sewage was being discharged through pipes into public drains, an act it described as a violation of environmental regulations and a threat to public health and safety.

According to the LSWMO, the illegal discharge caused environmental pollution and public nuisance, while also posing serious health risks to residents and users of the area.

The office reiterated the Lagos State Government’s commitment to enforcing environmental laws and ensuring proper wastewater management across the state.

It urged residents, businesses and organisations to comply strictly with approved wastewater disposal practices, warning that violators would face sanctions and possible prosecution in line with existing environmental laws.

The agency stressed that indiscriminate discharge of sewage into drains, canals and other public spaces undermines efforts to maintain a clean, healthy and sustainable environment in Lagos.

LSWMO further assured residents that monitoring and enforcement activities would continue across the state to curb environmental infractions and safeguard public health.
