Isan-Ekiti Murder Not Related to Election, Politics; Police Chief Clarifies

The Ekiti State Pokice Commissioner, Abayomi Shogunle, has clarified the murder incident in Isan-Ekiti, stressing that the incident was not related to the governorship election activities.

NPO Reported that clash had erupted on Friday evening as angry youths stormed the police station within the comnunity and set it ablaze over the alleged murder of a yet-to-be identified man.

The deceased seen in a graphic video lying in the pool of his own blood was alleged to have been shot dead by a police.

This had been heavily linked to the Saturday election with allegations that the murder was politically motivated.

Reacting in a post shared on his X handle today, Shogunle debunked the allegation.

The police commissioner claimed that the murder was a a result of a football match in the community.

“The incident at Isan-Ekiti last night is non election/political related. It was as a result of a football match in the community.” He said.

Shogunle disclosed that calm has been restored in te community with election set to commence.

“Necessary containment and de-escalation measures put in place, calmness restored.

“Voting would go ahead this morning in the town as scheduled.” He added.
