The investigation reportedly comprises more than 7,400 pages of evidence, including statements by suspects, bank records, handwritten notes, alleged records of secret conversations and other documentary exhibits.
PREMIUM TIMES recalled that its earlier investigation identified Colonel Mohammed Ma’aji as the alleged mastermind of the plot, working alongside retired Colonel M.M. Adamu, Lieutenant Colonel Shamsuddeen Bappah and Major Abdulkarim Ibrahim.
The report added that all the officers, except Adamu, who remains at large, gave separate statements that allegedly supported key aspects of the operational plan.
The report further alleged that specific assignments were allocated to participants for the planned operation.
According to the investigation, Nigerian Air Force Squadron Leader S.B. Adamu was assigned to take control of Air House, while Major Muhammad Jiddah was tasked with seizing the residence of the then Chief of Army Staff, Olufemi Oluyede.
Another officer, Major Daniel Yusuf, was allegedly assigned to take over the residence of the then Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, who now serves as Minister of Defence.
The documents also indicated that Captain Akinwale Yusuf, who was based in Lagos, was expected to capture a divisional headquarters in the state, while the fugitive retired Colonel M.M. Adamu was assigned to coordinate activities from the entrance of the Niger Barracks in Abuja.
According to investigators, Major Abdulkarim Ibrahim also stated that Lieutenant Colonel Shamsuddeen Bappah was initially expected to make the nationwide broadcast announcing the alleged takeover. However, he claimed that the responsibility was later reassigned to him.
