The reported one-term agreement between the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and his running mate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, under which Obi would serve only a single four-year term if elected president in 2027, has continued to attract divergent reactions from political groups and stakeholders across the country.
Kwankwaso was also reported to have confirmed that Obi signed a written commitment to serve only one four-year tenure if elected.
During the interview, she stated, “we asked why he was released without informing us. They said he was sick and they didn’t want him to die in their custody.
We reminded them that we lodged the complaint and should have been informed before his release, but nothing happened. The man threatened to kill us in the presence of the police on Thursday, yet they freed him.”
She maintained that the development deepened her family’s fears, insisting they were left vulnerable despite reporting the matter through official channels and cooperating with investigators, while expressing concern that justice appeared increasingly difficult to obtain following events.
She also recalled that officers later attempted to take her into custody, an experience she described as frightening, saying neighbours intervened during the incident and questioned why the family was allegedly facing harassment instead of receiving protection.
In her concluding remarks, Adisa appealed to the government to investigate her father’s killing, recover the disputed property, and ensure everyone responsible for any wrongdoing is held accountable, saying her family simply wants justice and lasting peace after years.
