In a statement signed Tuesday by Hassan Taiwo Soweto and Oloye Adegboyega-Adeniji, the group demanded the immediate withdrawal of all criminal charges against Sowore and a halt to what it described as a “politically-motivated trial.”
Justice M.G. Umar of a federal court revoked Sowore’s bail and ordered him remanded in Kuje prison.
The movement accused the Department of State Services operatives of attempting to “whisk away” Sowore from the courtroom in violation of the court’s remand order.
The group said Justice Umar’s conduct “raises serious concerns regarding judicial impartiality and respect for due process” and called on the National Judicial Council to direct the judge to recuse himself from the case.
“Justice is impossible where a judge’s impartiality is evidently compromised,” the statement said.
The movement warned that continued “attacks on democratic rights and persecution of activists cannot stop the Nigerian people from rising up to demand a change.
“It is only a matter of time before the rising anger and frustration felt by millions of Nigerians explodes onto the street in mass protests and demonstrations,” it said.
