Senator Rufai Sani Hanga, the lawmaker representing Kano Central Senatorial District since 2023, has accused the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate and former political ally, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, of political victimisation.

He levelled the allegation against the former Kano State governor recently whilst appearing on a radio programme in Kano.

Hanga expressed dismay over what he described as flimsy reasons for denying him the opportunity to contest for the position of deputy governor or to retain his Senate seat.

He wondered how Kwankwaso could cite his age and health condition as reasons to deny him a chance when he is clearly younger and healthier than him.

Speaking during the interview, Hanga said: “How can Kwankwaso cite my age and health condition to deny me the chance to contest for the position of deputy governor or my Senate seat?

“As of today, I am healthier than Kwankwaso. His frequent references to my leg condition are nothing but a sham that cannot stand. Let me tell you, regarding age, he is two years older than I am.”

The senator further explained that his leg problem does not, in any way, affect his legislative duties, adding: “If he is talking about my age, how old was he when he became governor, and how old is he now as a vice-presidential candidate?”
