Security personnel from the Nigerian Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were heavily deployed across Ikere-Ekiti on Saturday ahead of the Ekiti governorship election.
According to reports, Ikere-Ekiti is the community of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy Governorship candidate, Mrs Monisade Afuye and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Candidate, Dr Oluwole Oluyede.
Both the entry point to the community and the exit were barricade by personnel of the Nigerian police to ensure compliance with the restriction of movement during the election.
Vehicles and motorcycles were stopped from advancing, with residents only allowed to move on foot, while shops and restaurants were under locks and keys.
However accredited journalists covering the election were allowed to proceed with their vehicles bearing INEC stickers.
