The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Zamfara State, Mahdi Aliyu Muhammad, has dismissed reports claiming he has withdrawn from the 2027 election, describing them as false and misleading

In a statement issued on 3 June 2026 in Gusau, the candidate said the reports circulating on social media were fabricated by “desperate political elements” seeking to mislead the public and create confusion within the state’s political space.
He maintained that he duly participated in the ADC governorship primary, emerged as the winner, and accepted the mandate given to him by party members. According to the statement, he remains the party’s authentic and undisputed candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Zamfara State.
Muhammad stressed that he has neither withdrawn his candidature nor authorised anyone to speak on his behalf regarding such claims, urging party members, stakeholders, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the general public to disregard the reports.
He also condemned what he described as the spread of fake news and deliberate misinformation, warning that those behind such actions risk legal consequences.
The statement called on security agencies, electoral authorities, and the media to take note of the clarification, adding that his campaign remains focused and committed to offering credible leadership to the people of Zamfara State.
