The Accord Party has defied the Abuja Federal High Court’s ruling ordering the deregistration of the party as it kicked-off the campaign for the re-election bid of the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.
NPO Reported that the court had yesterday ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister Accord and four other parties over failure to meet the constitutional requirements for political parties in the country.
The ruling had sparked outrage from the affected political parties and other public figures.
Also reacting was Adeleke who, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, condemned the ruling.
According to him, contradicted the Appeal Court’s order restricting the lower court from taking any action over the party on account of a pending appeal.
Meanwhile, the Osun governor allayed concern over the ruling as he affirmed that the kick-off of his campaign for the August Governorship election will commence today as planned.
Living up to his promise, Adeleke and Accord commenced the campaign on Tuesday with mammoth crowd of supporters storming the venue of the event.
Also present at the campaign kickoff are leaders and stakeholders of the party, including the Accord Party’s Osun state governorship candidate, Oriyomi Hamzat.
