Arise News anchor Rufai Oseni has accused former vice president Atiku Abubakar of being hypocritical.
He made the statement on live television while reacting to Atiku’s condemnation of the zoning of the presidency to the south.
Atiku had argued that presenting another southern candidate against a sitting southern president lacks political strategy and has no historical precedent in Nigeria’s democratic experience.
However, Oseni claimed that the former vice president accepts zoning that favours him but opposes it when it is against him.
He was analysing zoning as the country prepares for the next year’s general elections.
Oseni said, “Atiku Abubakar should stop being hypocritical. When zoning favours him, he has no problem with it, but when it doesn’t favour him, he suddenly declares it self-defeating.
“Is it not the same Atiku that went to court against Jonathan in 2011 to ensure the PDP zoning formula?
“There were many court cases. I think in one of the rulings, the courts said they can’t assume jurisdiction and give a decision, but they acknowledged the fact that PDP had the zoning arrangements.
“So, when he was going to court, when he was pushing them against Jonathan, zoning was not self-defeating, right? How about when he left Olusegun Obasanjo in 2007?”
