No fewer than 10 persons were reportedly injured on Monday when a Honda vehicle collided with two commercial tricycles at the Federal Bus Stop along Ipaja Road in Lagos State.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that the accident, which occurred at about 8:50 am, involved a Honda vehicle with registration number KTU 921 JY and two commercial tricycles conveying passengers.
According to The PUNCH, eyewitnesses said the female driver of the Honda car was allegedly speeding when she attempted to avoid hitting a sweeper working with the Lagos Waste Management Authority.
According to witnesses at the scene, the vehicle first hit the LAWMA sweeper before veering off its lane and crashing into the two tricycles coming from the opposite direction.
The impact left several passengers injured, while the tricycles were badly damaged.
One of the eyewitnesses said the accident happened suddenly, adding that the Honda driver appeared to have lost control while trying to dodge the sweeper.
The witness said, “The woman was speeding. She tried to dodge the LAWMA sweeper, but the vehicle hit the sweeper and crossed to the other side of the road before hitting the two tricycles.”
It was gathered that about 10 passengers in the affected tricycles sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Some of the victims reportedly suffered serious injuries, while others sustained minor wounds.
It was further reported that the injured passengers were first taken to a private hospital for emergency treatment.
Some of them were later transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja for further medical attention.
Police officers from the Gowon Divisional Headquarters, neighbourhood watch personnel and officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority were seen at the scene managing traffic and assisting with rescue efforts.
The accident caused a temporary traffic disruption along the busy Ipaja Road as officials worked to clear the affected vehicles from the road.
However, authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the accident as of the time of filing this report.
