The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State has explained how Governor Siminalayi Fubara dropped his second term ambition.
The party maintained that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesome Wike is not its member and did not play any part in the party’s decision regarding the governor’s ambition.
Chibuike Ikenga, the APC Publicity Secretary in Rivers State, while in an interview on Arise News, said the decision was made by members of the party in the interest of the state.
He said, “Though he [Wike] is a very serious colossus in Rivers State and Nigeria at large, he doesn’t influence what happens in Rivers State.
“We the members of APC discussed and took our decision solely on an agreement we had to chart another course, that is why the governor took that step for the interest of peace and progress of the state.”
DAILY POST reported that Governor Fubar stated that he has been under intense pressure to take a decision ahead of the party’s governorship primaries.
He added that not everything that has transpired during the All Progressives Congress, APC, primaries in the state can be articulated by him.
Fubara’s time as the governor of Rivers State has been fraught with challenges, particularly due to his conflict with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Wike, a member of the PDP, who effectively controls the structures of both the APC and PDP in Rivers, had asserted that Fubara will never return as the governor of the state for a second term.
