The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed state coordinators and collation officers for the conduct of its 2026 presidential primary.
The ruling party said the officials would supervise the organisation of the direct primary across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The primary, according to the guidelines signed by the APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, and made available to journalists on Thursday, will be conducted in all the 8,809 wards across the country, with registered APC members expected to vote for their preferred presidential aspirant.
PrimeTimes Nigeria observed that the APC adopted the direct mode of primary for the presidential contest.
Under the arrangement, all registered members of the party will be eligible to participate in the exercise at the ward level.
The party said voting would take place in each of the 8,809 wards in Nigeria, while results from the wards would be collated at the local government level before being forwarded to the state level.
APC Appoints Party Leaders In Opposition States
The ruling party also appointed key political actors as state coordinators and collation officers in states governed by opposition parties.
The move is expected to place the presidential primary structure in such states under the control of senior APC figures rather than sitting governors who do not belong to the party.
For instance, in Oyo State, where Governor Seyi Makinde is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the APC appointed Senator Teslim Folarin as the state coordinator and collation officer.
In Abia State, where Governor Alex Otti belongs to the Labour Party, the party appointed Benjamin Kalu to take charge of the process as state coordinator and collation officer.
The arrangement indicates that the APC is relying on its own political leaders and structures in opposition-controlled states to manage the primary and collation process.

Coordinators To Appoint LG Collation Officers
According to the party’s procedure, the state coordinators and collation officers will appoint local government collation officers.
The local government collation officers will collate results from all wards within each of the 774 local government areas in the country.
After the local government collation, the state coordinators will receive and collate results from all local government areas in their states.
They will then submit the collated results to the Presidential Primary Election Committee in Abuja.
PrimeTimes Nigeria understands that the state coordinators and collation officers appointed by the National Working Committee will then collate results from all local government areas in their respective states.
They are also expected to present the final state results to the Presidential Primary Election Committee in Abuja on May 24, 2026.
