The Ondo State Government has stepped up efforts to strengthen its security architecture with a comprehensive welfare package for operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun.
Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon Idowu Ajanaku, disclosed this while briefing journalists, noting that the initiative reflects Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s resolve to enhance operational efficiency by prioritising the well-being of security personnel.
Ajanaku said the government had approved the inclusion of Amotekun officers and men in the Ondo State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme, enabling them and their families to access quality healthcare services.
He described the move as a strategic intervention to boost morale and productivity among operatives tasked with safeguarding lives and property.
In a further push to institutionalise the agency, the commissioner revealed that the governor had also approved the issuance of Warrants of Service Enlistment to personnel, pending the completion of the legal framework guiding the corps.
According to him, this step is expected to reinforce the structure of the agency and improve its operational effectiveness.
He added that Amotekun personnel would benefit from the Contributory Pension Scheme and the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), alongside the existing life insurance policy.
The package, he said, underscores the administration’s commitment to recognising the sacrifices of operatives working to maintain peace across the state.
On preparations for the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, Ajanaku disclosed that 650 operatives had been deployed across the 18 local government areas to ensure a hitch-free festive period.
He assured residents of the government’s continued commitment to proactive security measures.
The commissioner also announced that the agency recently apprehended 98 suspected criminals, including individuals posing as lunatics allegedly linked to kidnapping and robbery.
He said the arrests highlight the agency’s growing capacity to tackle crime and restore public confidence in the state’s security framework.
