The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has announced the assumption of duty of Felix Ohagwu as the 47th Commissioner of Police in the state.
Ohagwu succeeds Adebowale Lawal, following his deployment by the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu.
The Command said the deployment was part of ongoing efforts by the police authorities to strengthen internal security and improve policing across the country.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.
According to the statement, Ohagwu is a seasoned police officer with more than three decades of service experience.
The Command said the new police commissioner had served in several investigative, operational and administrative capacities in different parts of the country.
It added that his experience would be valuable in sustaining peace, improving crime prevention and strengthening public confidence in policing in Ondo State.
Upon assuming office, Ohagwu pledged to build on the existing security structure in the state.
He said his administration would prioritise the protection of lives and property, while deepening proactive policing across communities.
The new commissioner also said the Command would intensify intelligence gathering, community engagement and collaboration with sister security agencies to tackle crime and criminality.
According to him, security operations under his watch would be driven by professionalism and respect for the rights of citizens.
Ohagwu assured residents of the state that the Command would remain committed to accountable and people-friendly policing.
“The Command under my leadership will remain committed to transparency, accountability, professionalism, respect for human rights and a corruption-free policing system,” CP Ohagwu said.
He further stated that officers and personnel of the Command would be expected to uphold integrity, ethical conduct and quality service delivery.
The new CP said the Command would operate in line with global best policing practices.
Ohagwu expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for the confidence reposed in him through the deployment.
He also commended the outgoing commissioner, Adebowale Lawal, for his contributions to peace and security in Ondo State.
The new police boss called for the support and cooperation of residents, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders in sustaining security across the state.
He said the police could achieve better results when members of the public provide timely and useful information to security agencies.
