The Chairman of Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State, Tijjani Amiru Bilyaminu, has ordered the immediate closure of Al-Hadeed Private School until further notice.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that the decision followed the remand of one of the school’s teachers, identified as Uncle Kamal, by a magistrate’s court over allegations of sexually abusing four minor pupils.
Bilyaminu said the closure was necessary to allow proper investigation into the matter and to ensure that justice is served.
The council chairman said his administration would not tolerate any form of abuse against children within the local government area.
He noted that the protection of children remained a major responsibility of the council, adding that anyone found guilty of violating their rights would be made to face the law.
According to him, the action taken against the school was to ensure justice for the victims and to allow the suspect to face the full wrath of the law.
Bilyaminu restated the commitment of the council to protecting the rights and welfare of children at all times.
The teacher was arraigned before a magistrate’s court on Monday over allegations involving four minors.
The alleged victims were identified as seven-year-old Hassana, Hussaina, Gambo, and their five-year-old sister.
The prosecution counsel, Badamasi Gandu, told the court that a medical examination had been conducted on the children before the suspect was brought before the court.
Gandu said doctors confirmed that the children were sexually assaulted.
After hearing the matter, the court ordered that the teacher be remanded to a correctional facility.
The case was subsequently adjourned till June 6 for further hearing.
The development has sparked concern among residents and parents in the area, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the allegations.
The Ungogo council boss said the local government would continue to work with relevant authorities to ensure that schools and other institutions remain safe for children.
He added that the council would not hesitate to take firm action against any individual or institution found to have failed in its duty to protect minors.
The closure of Al-Hadeed Private School, according to the council, will remain in effect pending further directives from the appropriate authorities.
