Officers of the Hisbah Board in Kebbi State have arrested a man allegedly found hiding inside a “Ghana Must-Go” bag at the residence of a married woman in the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi.
The Director of Sharia at the board, Sirajo Kamba, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Tuesday (today) in Birnin Kebbi.
According to him, the arrest followed a report by residents of the area, who allegedly saw the man entering the woman’s house late at night.
Kamba said the board received the report around 12:15 am on Monday, May 18, after some residents became suspicious of the man’s presence in the house.
He said the residents alleged that the visit suggested an improper relationship between the man and the married woman.
“The residents suspected an illicit affair contrary to Islamic teachings, hence their decision to formally notify the authority.
“Upon receiving the report, the Kebbi Hisbah Board swiftly deployed officers to investigate.
“When officers arrived, they requested permission to search the house, but the woman initially denied that anyone was inside,” he said.
The Hisbah director said the woman later allowed the officers to search the house.
During the search, the officers reportedly discovered the man concealed inside a “Ghana Must-Go” bag.
Kamba said further investigation allegedly revealed that the man and the married woman were in a romantic relationship.
He added that both suspects were questioned after the discovery.
According to Kamba, the suspects allegedly admitted to the accusation during interrogation.
He said they would be arraigned in court to face legal proceedings under Islamic law.
The board did not immediately disclose the identities of the suspects or provide further details on when they would be taken to court.
The incident has generated reactions in the area, with residents describing the discovery as shocking.
The Kebbi incident comes days after the Kano State Hisbah Board arrested two women and a 35-year-old fish seller over an alleged attempt to engage in immoral acts in the state.
The Director of Public Enlightenment of the Kano Hisbah Board, Auwalu Sheshe, confirmed the arrest in a statement last Wednesday.
He said, “The personnel found a 35-year-old fish seller identified as Ali Abubakar, from the Kano Cooperative area, together with his female companion, Fatima Abubakar, a 28-year-old woman from the Niger Republic, inside one of the rooms, allegedly preparing to engage in immoral conduct.”
The Hisbah Board is an agency under the Kebbi State Ministry of Religious Affairs, PrimeTimes Nigeria reports.
