The Chief Executive Officer of United Bank for Africa, Oliver Alawuba, has been honoured at the 2026 Annual Dinner and Awards Night organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.
The event, held over the weekend in Lagos, recognised distinguished Nigerians and organisations for their contributions to economic growth, professional development, and public service.
Other notable award recipients include the Governor of Niger State, Umar Mohammed Bago and the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi.
Alawuba received his award in the Non-Members Category. The honour was presented by former Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, alongside ICAN President and Chairman of Council, Haruna Nma Yahaya.
Speaking after receiving the award, Alawuba dedicated the recognition to employees of UBA across Africa, commending their commitment to the bank’s growth and success.
“This honour belongs to every member of the UBA family who works tirelessly every day to serve our customers and build an institution that transcends individuals. I proudly accept this recognition on their behalf,” he said.
Alawuba also encouraged young Nigerians to embrace professionalism, discipline, and integrity, stressing that hard work remains essential for success.
“I want every young Nigerian to understand that there are no shortcuts to success. Build your competence, uphold integrity, and remain committed to excellence. Recognition will come. Africa’s brightest days are ahead, and it is your generation that will shape that future,” he added.
In his remarks, ICAN President Haruna Nma Yahaya described the awardees as role models whose careers reflect accountability, professionalism, and service to society.
“Tonight is not only about celebrating achievements; it is about showcasing role models whose impact and values can inspire the accounting profession and the wider Nigerian economy,” he said.
Senator Ibikunle Amosun also praised Alawuba for his continued support for ICAN and his contributions to professional development in the financial sector.
Other recipients in the Non-Members Category included Kunle Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of AXA Mansard Insurance Plc and Chairman of the Nigerian Insurers Association, as well as Godwin Chinyere Nwabunka.
In the Members Category, awards were presented to Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, Uwem Andrew-Essien, and Odunayo Ani of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency.
The Young Members Category recognised Olumide Akinpelumi and Hauwa Nana Ibrahim for their achievements in the accounting and financial sectors.
Corporate awards were also presented to Amber Prime Plastics Limited, New Nigeria Development Company Limited, and Dufil Prima Foods Limited for their contributions to Nigeria’s business environment.
