Nollywood actress, Shine Rosman, has opened up about how some people predicted that she would end up becoming a prostitute after her father’s demise.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Rosman, speaking in a recent interview with media personality, Chude Jidenowo, disclosed that her father’s loss was traumatic to the point that she became suicidal.
The movie star said that she lost her father at the tender age of 16, which affected her life, as many lost hope in her after the sad incident.
Rosman said she used the setback and the financial struggles that followed as fuel for her ambitions.
She said, “After I lost my dad at 16, many people said to me that I would end up becoming a prostitute and get pregnant out of wedlock.
“Grief can drive you to a point of suicide because grief is probably one of the hardest things to overcome. My tough upbringing definitely prepared me to want to do better every day. I don’t know how ambitious I would have been if I grew up in a very comfortable environment.”
Meanwhile, Roseman recently spoke about the financial condition of many actors in the Nigerian movie industry, saying the public often believes actors are wealthier than they truly are.
She spoke during a podcast interview hosted by fellow actor Baaj Adebule.
The To Kill A Monkey actress explained that many people wrongly assume every Nollywood star is financially comfortable because of their fame and public appearance.
According to her, the reality in the industry is different, as many actors still face financial difficulties despite being popular on television and social media.
She said only a few entertainers enjoy financial stability, and many of those who appear rich usually earn money from businesses and other jobs outside acting.
Rosman also said acting alone does not always provide enough income for many people in the industry. She added that while some actors are doing well financially, many are still struggling to meet their needs.
