A federal government delegation on Sunday visited Oyo State over the recent kidnapping of pupils and teachers in Orire local government area of the state.
Recall that the bandits simultaneously raided schools in the area, seizing about 46 pupils and teachers.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that the delegation is led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila and includes the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, Minister of Defence, Christopher, Joseph, Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe and the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Public Communications, Sunday Dare.
The delegation met with community leaders and families of teachers, students and pupils abducted from schools in the area.
The visit followed the abduction of teachers and pupils from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15, 2026.
The federal government delegation met with community leaders and relatives of the victims and assured them of ongoing efforts to secure the release of those still being held captive.
The high-level visit comes amid growing public concern over the incident, which has sparked protests and renewed calls for stronger security measures to protect schools and rural communities across Oyo State.
The visit comes hours after the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, visited one of the communities affected by the recent school abduction in Oriire Local Government Area of the state during the weekend, assuring families of the victims that his administration was working with security agencies to secure their release.
The Governor’s visit came two weeks after suspected gunmen attacked communities in the area, killing residents and abducting several pupils and teachers.
Makinde, on Saturday, May 30, met with affected families, community leaders and residents at L.A Basic School, one of the schools affected by the incident.
Addressing the gathering, the governor said he understood the pain and anxiety of the families whose children and relatives were still being held by the abductors.
He said the government would continue to pursue lawful and coordinated efforts to ensure the safe return of all victims.
