Lagos House of Assembly lawmaker, Desmond Elliot, has raised alarm over alleged intimidation against him ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Primaries for states’ assemblies.
Elliot disclosed that his security aides have been withdrawn for unknown reason, adding that some of his supporters were also intimidated in Surulere.
The lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency made this known in a video posted on social media on Sunday.
He decried the intimidation and alleged coercion of people to follow a particular aspirant.
Elliot further lamented the involvement of the local government in the act as he alleged that some of the council workers have been fired for supporting him.
‘I want to bring to your notice that intimidation, coercion, arm twisting, and forcing people to follow their own aspirant is what is existing today in Surulere, telling them that they will not be beneficiaries of some empowerment that is coming some other time.
“This should not be done. We are all members of the same party. We’ve been intimidated so much that a lot of people from the local government are being fired because they follow me. That should not be allowed.
“It is bad enough that the LGA already took a side months ago. The local government took a side to support a particular aspirant. I didn’t say anything.
“But they were shocked to see a quantum number of people and supporters that we had and followed us because they believe in justice and they believe in fair play.
“Moreso, my security personnel was taken away from me yesterday for reasons best known to I don’t know. Now I am left alone to myself. What have I done?” He said.
The Nollywood actor turned politician further alleged plot to incite violence during the election slated to hold on the 20th of May.
While suing for free and fair election and intervention of the party’s chieftain, Elliot expressed readiness to support any aspirant that emerges at the end of the election.
“They are coming out to fight us. They want to bring people from outside and from within to cause mayhem and trouble.
“Please allow for a free and fair election on the 20th of May 2026. Come peacefully, stand behind your candidate.
“And by the grace of God, if I, Desmond Olushola wins, Alhamdulillah. If I lose, I will throw my support to the winner. But let it be under a free and fair election,
“I want to ask our party chieftains to please investigate this matter.” He said.
The lawmaker however urged all his supporter to come out en masse to vote as he assured them of adequate security.
He reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu and the candidacy of Dr. Obaemi Hamzat as next Lagos state governor.
