The African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential aspirant, Rotimi Amaechi, has revealed plan to abolish indigeneship recognition if elected as Nigeria’s President in 2027.

Amaechi expressed his displeasure with ethnic and religious sentiments attached to the socio-political affairs of the country  as he vowed to abolish indigeneship with the concept citizenship introduced in its stead.

The former Rivers state governor made this known while addressing newsmen after completing the ADC’s screening exercise held at the Transcorp Hilton hotel in Abuja on Wednesday.

He maintained that every person born in the country are firstly citizens of Nigeria before any regional or tribal affiliation.

“Access us by what we have done. And this is the conclusion, all this I’m from North, I’m from South, I’m from East. I’m not from South or East or West. I’m a Nigerian.

“If I become the President, there will not be indigeneship.

“There will be citizenship. We are first and foremost citizens of Nigeria.

“All these I’m West, North, East, and you are calling people to vote for you based on religion.” He said.

When asked on possibilty of him abolishing Federal Character with his advocacy against indigeneship, Amaechi held that Federal Character eas adopted in Nigeria becase of unfair system of resource allocation and availability of job opportunites.

He held that embracing citizenship with enable every Nigerians to work anywhere across the country will reduce the surge in number of criminals.

“Federal Character is because the system is unfair. It is a one way to manage the system. If everybody is employed, will there be armed robbers?

“If all of us are working in Shell, you won’t have time to rob because 6am you are work, 6pm you have closed. You get too tire to wake up to carry gun.

“The reason why you see people carry gun and kidnap people is because the system is bad.” He said.
