Kowiu Oloyede, a 25-year-old Ogun-based tailor arrested over creation of fake bandits’ attack video has disclosed motive behind his action.
The tailor had in a viral TikTok video alleged bandits’ invasion in Atan Ota area of the state.
His video had reportedly thrown some residents of Ogun state into panic, prompting his arrest by the police.
Speaking during an interrogation with the Ogun Police Command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, Kowiu confessed making the video in a bid to gain followers, engagement, and become famous like popular Nigerian streamer, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller.
The 25-year-old tailor, who spoke in Yoruba, said confirmed that there was no bandits attack in the area, stressing that his video was staged at the back of his shop with a gunshot sound clip he found on TikTok
“I didn’t get any information about the alleged bandit attack.
“I came across sound clip of bandits attack while pressing my phone at work and I decided to use the sound clip on my video to gain followers like Peller.
I thought it would also bring me to the limelight and make me famous without knowing it will implicate me like this.
“There is no information of bandits attack in Atan Oba”. He said.
Kowiu disclosed been encouraged by a neighbour which prompted a second video of him kneeling before a herdsman to create an impression of being in kidnappers’ den.
He explained that the now-video was recorded while he was begging the herdsman to join him in making the video which the herder rejected.
