A young politician and community mobiliser in Ebubu, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, Samuel Obe Ngobe, has been shot dead by gunmen suspected to be assassins.
The incident reportedly occurred on May 22 when the assailants invaded a hotel owned by the deceased in the community.
It was gathered that the gunmen went straight to Ngobe and opened fire on him.
Sources who spoke with Daily Post on the incident said the two masked attackers arrived at the scene on a motorcycle.
They reportedly entered the hotel and shot the politician dead before fleeing. The assailants were also said to have seized cell phones belonging to hotel workers to prevent them from raising an alarm.
When contacted on Monday, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, confirmed the incident.
The police spokesperson said an investigation had commenced into the killing.
“Investigation is ongoing on the matter,” Kaborlo said.
Tension As Bandits Attack Kwara Police Station, Emir’s Palace
In other news, the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed an attack by suspected bandits on the Yashikira Police Divisional Headquarters and the palace of the Emir of Yashikira in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.
The attack, according to the police, occurred at about 2:00 am on May 25, 2026, when the armed men launched a coordinated assault on the community.
In a statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the command said the attackers set part of the Emir’s palace ablaze and abducted 10 persons during the operation.
The police, however, said operatives on duty at the Yashikira Divisional Headquarters successfully repelled the attack on the station.
