Atiku Abubakar, A former vice president, departed Abuja on Monday for Adamawa state ahead of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election.
Atiku was seen boarding a flight alongside some of his aides as he headed to his home state for the party’s crucial selection process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former Vice President is among leading aspirants cleared by the ADC to contest the party’s presidential ticket.
Other contenders include Rotimi Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers state and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
His trip to Adamawa follows his endorsement by the ADC leadership in the state after consultations with party stakeholders and members.
Party officials described Atiku as a seasoned politician with the experience and national reach needed to reposition Nigeria.
The ADC presidential primary is expected to produce the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 elections, with the process being closely watched amid ongoing opposition realignments.
The party has urged aspirants and delegates to ensure a peaceful and orderly primary, stressing unity and discipline ahead of the general election.
