Lawmaker representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Gbenga Daniel, has dumped his re-election bid as he withdrew from the All Progressives Congress (APC) Primaries.

Daniel eventually bowed to pressure within the party as he announced his withdrawal from the race on Sunday.

The former Ogun governor’s withdrawal have now paved way for the candidacy of the current governor of the state, Dapo Abiodun, who had been widely endorsed for the APC Senatorial ticket of constituency.

According to reports, supporters of the ex-governor under the aegis of BATOGD Movement also announced their members’ withdrawal from the primary election slated to hold today.

Prior to Daniel’s withdrawal, the lawmaker had been engaged in fierce contest with the Abiodun over the past months.

The duo had been playing blame games with Daniel accusing Abiodun of demolishing his properties, particularly his wife’s five-storey plaza in Ijebu-Ode and preventing him from executing projects in his constituency.

The Ogun governor however denied the allegations while also faulting some of the construction projects conducted by the lawmaker, alleging the use of substandard materials.
