THE General Manager, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, has felicitated Muslims as they prepare to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.
The general manager urged strict adherence to road safety rules during the celebration.
This is contained in a statement signed by Bakare-Oki and made available to newsmen in Lagos on Tuesday.
According to him, Eid-el-Kabir is a season of spiritual reflection, sacrifice, faith, tolerance and submission to the will of Allah.
He urged Muslims to uphold peace, compassion, selflessness, discipline and harmonious coexistence.
The LASTMA boss advised motorists and other road users to exercise caution and responsibility before, during and after the celebration to safeguard lives and property.
He warned against reckless driving, excessive speeding, dangerous overtaking and other traffic violations capable of causing accidents and fatalities.
Bakare-Oki appealed to drivers to avoid operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances that could impair judgment and coordination.
He said that compliance with stipulated speed limits and traffic regulations remained essential for a hitch-free celebration.
“LASTMA officers will be strategically deployed across major highways and critical traffic points in Lagos to ensure free flow of traffic and provide prompt emergency response services.
“I appeal to residents to cooperate with traffic officers and other security agencies by obeying all traffic rules and directives,” he said.
He wished all Muslims a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Kabir celebration and prayed for continued peace, unity and prosperity in Lagos State and the entire Nigeria.(NAN)
