An aspirant for Ikeja Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly has expressed confidence in securing victory at the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of the APC Lagos West Senatorial primaries, Mr Wale Ajala, a legal practitioner, said he was motivated to contest after observing what he described as a lack of visible impact by the incumbent.
NAN reports that Ikeja Constituency II is currently represented in the 10th Lagos State House of Assembly by Mr Adedamola Kasunmu, who is serving his third term.
Kasunmu also serves as the Deputy Majority Leader of the House.
Ajala declared his intention to contest the 2027 elections, citing the need for effective representation and grassroots development in the constituency.
“The current occupant of the seat has been there for three terms and has done virtually nothing.
“As a constituent of Ikeja Constituency II, there are many things I want to offer the people,” he said.
Ajala said his legal background had given him a clear understanding of the role of a lawmaker, noting that it extended beyond lawmaking to constituency development and oversight functions.
“As a trained lawyer, I understand lawmaking, and I know the work of a lawmaker goes beyond making laws. There are many other things we can do,” he said.
Outlining his agenda, the aspirant said his programme would focus on legislative engagement, road infrastructure, developmental projects and youth empowerment initiatives.
“We can initiate legislative programmes, improve road infrastructure and execute developmental projects, including youth empowerment programmes. All these are key parts of our agenda,” he said.
Ajala expressed confidence in securing victory at the APC primaries, noting that he had already been supporting residents through his private legal practice.
“I have been supporting the people long before now, even without holding public office.
“They know my contributions through my legal practice, and they believe that when elected, I will continue to work for them,” he said.
Ajala also commended Sen. Idiat Adebule, representing Lagos West Senatorial District, for her contributions to the state.
“Sen. Idiat Adebule has done very well for the people,” he said, adding that party loyalty remained important in delivering good governance. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
