Nigerian actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham has expressed deep sadness over the abduction of teachers and children in Oyo State, describing the tragedy as deeply personal to her given her strong ties to the state through family and culture.
In a post shared on Instagram on Wednesday, Abraham said her heart was heavy over the killings and abductions taking place in Oyo State and other parts of Nigeria.
She mourned with the families of the victims, particularly the parents of abducted children, and stressed that no Nigerian should have to live in fear or wake up to news of violence and bloodshed.
While commending the efforts of security agencies and the Oyo State Government, she called for more urgent and decisive action to secure the release of those still in captivity and strengthen the protection of lives across communities.
She also questioned what the state government was doing to prevent future occurrences.
Abraham urged Nigerians to speak up, support one another and resist the normalisation of violence, describing the moment as one that calls for unity, compassion and collective responsibility.
Her comments follow the beheading of a male teacher who was among those abducted in Oyo State, as well as the killing of at least ten people by attackers in Oyo and Katsina States.
