The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has said that many Nigerians are seeking a credible political alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging party members not to let them down.
Mark made this known on Saturday during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.
The former Senate President said the ADC must position itself as a viable platform capable of addressing Nigeria’s security and economic challenges.
“Many citizens are increasingly searching for a credible political platform. The ADC must not fail them,” he said.
He expressed concern over the country’s security situation, noting that insecurity continues to endanger lives, livelihoods, and economic activities across various regions.
“Nigeria today faces profound challenges. Insecurity continues to threaten lives and livelihoods across many parts of our country. Communities are displaced, farmers are unable to cultivate their lands freely, businesses struggle under difficult economic conditions, and millions of families face hardship and uncertainty,” he stated.
Mark also highlighted worsening economic conditions, including rising living costs, unemployment, and declining purchasing power, describing them as issues requiring urgent attention.
“Equally troubling is the growing economic burden on ordinary Nigerians. Rising cost of living, unemployment, declining purchasing power and social discontent demand urgent and sincere attention from those entrusted with governance,” he said.
He, however, stressed that the ADC would not exploit the nation’s challenges for political gain.
“As a responsible opposition party, the ADC does not celebrate the difficulties confronting our nation, nor do we seek political advantage from the pain of our people. Rather, we stand firmly in support of every sincere effort aimed at restoring peace, security, economic stability and national cohesion,” he said.
Mark called on all levels of government to intensify efforts to address insecurity and improve the welfare of citizens.
He also urged unity within the party, saying internal cohesion and discipline would be critical to its success ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Our strength lies not in division but in unity.
“We must resist every tendency capable of weakening our collective resolve. Personal ambition must never supersede party interest. Internal disagreements, where they exist, should be resolved through dialogue, mutual respect and established party mechanisms,” he said.
The ADC chairman acknowledged complaints arising from the party’s recent primaries in some states, assuring members that the leadership would address all grievances in line with the party’s constitution.
“I am aware of the numerous complaints, concerns and petitions arising from our party primaries across various states and constituencies. These issues are neither unusual in democratic contests nor beyond resolution within the framework of our party constitution and established procedures,” he added.
He said the National Working Committee would review recommendations from appeal committees before taking final decisions.
“Our objective is clear. We must present candidates who are not only committed to the ideals of the ADC but who also possess the capacity, credibility and electoral strength to win elections and effectively serve the Nigerian people,” he said.
Mark further urged members nationwide to strengthen the party’s grassroots structure and remain committed to building a stronger political platform ahead of 2027.
