The Tinubu Media Support Group (TMSG), says recent counter-terrorism successes across the country underscore the Federal Government’s seriousness in tackling insecurity.
This is contained in a statement on Friday in Abuja, signed by the group’s Chairman, Emeka Nwankpa, and Secretary, Dapo Okubanjo respectively.
The duo said that the development contradicted claims of nonchalance by critics following the recent abduction of pupils and teachers from three schools in Oyo State.
Though they acknowledged the incident, but they however noted that security forces had in recent weeks, recorded notable successes in key hotspots of insecurity nationwide.
They cited a joint operation involving Nigerian and U.S. forces in the Lake Chad region, which reportedly eliminated a top ISIS commander, Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, alongside other senior fighters.
They also referenced further airstrikes and operations announced by the Defence Headquarters, which had led to the neutralisation of scores of terrorists, as well as arrests of suspects and collaborators in states including Zamfara, Taraba and Sokoto.
According to the duo, the Nigerian Police also arrested six suspects linked to the Oyo abduction, accused of providing logistics and route information to the attackers.
Nwankpa and Okubanjo said President Bola d Tinubu had directed security chiefs to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted victims, while also reiterating his call for the establishment of state police.
They urged the National Assembly to expedite action on the legal framework for state policing, describing it as critical to addressing evolving security threats.
They further said available data suggested a reduction in large-scale attacks, attributing the trend to sustained counter-terrorism operations, though they noted that kidnapping and rural raids remained concerns.
They called on Nigerians to remain vigilant and support security agencies in efforts to enhance national security and stability.(NAN)
