United Nigeria Airlines has grounded one of its aircraft after another bird strike disrupted operations, marking the fifth such incident involving the carrier this year.
The airline said the latest occurrence involved a CRJ-900 aircraft operating Flight UN0579 from Kano to Abuja.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by Chibuike Uloka, the airline’s spokesperson, the bird strike happened while the aircraft was landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, after departing the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.
Following the incident, the aircraft was immediately withdrawn from service for safety checks.
“In line with our strict and uncompromising safety standards, the aircraft has been immediately withdrawn from operations to undergo comprehensive technical inspections and any required maintenance before being returned to service,” the airline said.
The development is expected to affect some scheduled flights across the airline’s network.
United Nigeria Airlines apologised to passengers and appealed for understanding, assuring customers that safety remains its top priority.
“Consequently, some flights across our network may not operate as scheduled; however, safety remains our highest priority. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this unforeseen development may cause to our passengers’ travel plans,” the statement added.
The airline acknowledged that this was the fifth bird strike involving its fleet in 2026, but maintained that each incident had been handled in line with aviation regulations and standard operating procedures.
“Each occurrence has been managed in full compliance with applicable aviation safety regulations and established operational procedures,” it said.
The carrier also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining safe and reliable services, promising to continue taking measures aimed at improving operations and meeting passenger expectations.
