Presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, has criticized the administration of President Bola Tinubu, saying he is not satisfied with how the country is being run and would make security his top concern if elected.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that he made this known during an interview on Arise TV on Wednesday, where he spoke about his plans and views ahead of the next election.
During the interview, Atiku was asked about how he intends to defeat a sitting president. He refused to explain his approach, saying he would not discuss his political plans in that kind of setting.
The former vice president also reacted to claims that any joint candidate from a political alliance may find it hard to defeat Tinubu, dismissing such suggestions.
Speaking further, Atiku said the current administration has not met his expectations, adding that he is unhappy with the state of the country. He said his concerns cover both the economy and other areas of governance.
On what he would do first if he becomes president, Atiku said restoring security and maintaining order would come before anything else. He explained that without safety and stability, it would be difficult for any government to carry out plans in areas like job creation, infrastructure, or healthcare.
He maintained that a country must first be secure before any meaningful progress can be achieved in other sectors.
He said: “Everything is wrong with President Tinubu. I mean, honestly, perhaps in my life this is the worst administration I have seen.
“I feel terribly disappointed. Economically, otherwise, I feel disappointed. I believe security, law and order are basic. Whatever you want to achieve, if you don’t have security, you don’t have law and order, I don’t think you can implement whatever policy, whether it is job creation, whether it is infrastructure development, whether it is health care, whatever, you must have a secure and stable country.”
