OBOSI Development Association, Los Angeles, USA (ODALA) has donated twelve-toilet facilities to Union Secondary School, Obosi (USS,Obosi), a school, which was transformed to a smart school, recently.

When members of the association learnt that no lavatory was on the school premises, it embarked on the execution of the toilet-building project for the students and staff of the school to curb the menace of open defecation there, which robbed them of their dignity.

The commissioning of the project took place on April 14, 2026 at the expansive hall of the Union Secondary School, Obosi, Anambra state.

And the traditional ruler of the Obosi ancient kingdom, Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka 111), was represented at the epochal event by the duo of Nze Chiedu Emodi and Nze Chudy Ononye.

In his speech during the event, Ononye thanked ODALA for building the lavatory structures while noting that the town of Obosi is known for its uncommon achievements in the area of education.

“I am happy that ODALA built toilet facilities for the students and staff of USS, Obosi.

“My prayer is that God shall bless all the donors whose contributions have made the project become a success.

“And I would like us to know that education is important. Obosi, our town, is known for its achievements in the area of education.

“Our son, Prof. Kodilinye, who was a one-time vice chancellor of University of Nigeria, Nsukka, was the first medical doctor in Igboland,” Ononye said.

More so, the principal of the school, Mrs. Ebele Onugha, expressed her thankfulness to ODALA for completing the toilet project, noting that Engr. Ifeanyi Okoma and Engr. Eric Anyamene had contributed in no small ways to the school’s infrastructural development and provision of security for it.

“For many years, this school operated without toilet facilities. Happily, what seemed like an impossible dream has become a reality today.

“So I am very grateful to ODALA members for executing this important project at Union Secondary School, Obosi,” Onugha stated.

She, also, paid tribute to the memory of the immediate former principal of the school, the late Mrs. Udogadi Agom, eulogizing her for her immeasurable contributions to the school’s development.

More so, Onugha lauded Mrs Nneamaka Chidoka, English language teacher in the school; and Amuche Okoye, the school bursar, for their tireless efforts aimed at burnishing the school’s image and uplifting its status.

Again, the President of Obosi Development Association, Los Angeles, USA (ODALA), Mr. Okechukwu Uzoegwu, thanked members of  ODALA for their financial support, which guaranteed the completion of the projection.

He urged the people of Obosi on whose land the school is located not to renege on maintaining the toilet facilities handed over to the school authorities.

” We are grateful to ODALA members for their financial contributions, which made it possible for us to build the toilet facilities.

“We are, however, urging Obosi people to maintain these facilities to ensure that they are not damaged or become derelict,” Uzoegwu said.

He, also,  praised the duo of Mrs. Nneamaka Chidoka and Amuche Okoye, who are indigenes of Obosi and who are on the staff of the school, for the sacrifices they made to ensure that the project was completed.

” I cannot end this address without paying tribute to some staff members of Union Secondary School Obosi, namely Mrs. Chidoka, and the school bursar, Amuche Okoye.

“They worked sacrificially to ensure that this project is completed. God will continue to bless them and their families,” Uzoegwu said.

Other stakeholders in the school, who attended the event were Mrs. Uchenna Akabogu, who stood in for the President of USS, Obosi old students’ association, Dr. Ndidi Ofole; Mrs. Nneamaka Chidoka, who represented ODALA members; Nze Nzube Onugha, father of the day; teachers in the school; and some select students of the school.
