Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully foiled a coordinated terrorist attack on the Brigade Headquarters in Benisheikh, Borno State.
According to a press release signed by the Director, Defence Media Operations, Michael Onoja, the attack occurred at approximately 0030hrs (12:30am) on Thursday, April 9, 2026, when insurgents attempted to breach the defensive perimeter of the military installation.
The statement said troops of the 29 Task Force Brigade, led by Oseni Braimah, responded with “exceptional courage, professionalism, and superior firepower,” decisively engaging the attackers and forcing them to retreat in disarray.
“The insurgents were decisively engaged and forced to retreat in disarray, abandoning their mission and leaving behind traces of their failed assault,” the statement said.
It described the attack as a sign of desperation by terrorist elements following significant losses in recent operations, noting that the swift response underscores the combat readiness and resilience of Operation HADIN KAI.
The statement, however, confirmed that the encounter resulted in the loss of some soldiers.
The Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, paid tribute to the fallen personnel.
“Their courage will forever remain a source of pride and inspiration to the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the entire nation,” it stated, adding that condolences have been extended to their families.
The Armed Forces urged the public and media to allow due process in notifying next of kin before further details are released and cautioned against misinformation.
It added that clearance operations are ongoing to track fleeing insurgents and prevent regrouping, reaffirming the military’s commitment to restoring peace in the North-East.
