A campaign group for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, the Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT), says 5,000 residents will benefit from its medical outreach in Ondo State.
The Director-General of the group in the state, Mr Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, said this at the flag-off of the second phase of the outreach on Thursday in Oke-Agbe, Akoko North-East Local Government Area.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the outreach, tagged “Jingi Asiwaju,” is sponsored by the Minister of Interior, Mr Bunmi Tunji-Ojo.
Yusuf-Ogunleye said the programme was a fulfilment of promises made to residents and aimed at complementing the efforts of the Federal Government by bringing healthcare services closer to the grassroots.
He explained that the outreach targets about 500 beneficiaries per local government area, covering medical tests, consultations and treatment of various health conditions.
“This second phase is a promise kept.
“We assured the people of the state that the Jingi Asiwaju Medical Outreach would continue, and today we are in Oke-Agbe for its continuation.
“We are adding value to the efforts of the Federal Government by not only enlightening the people on its programmes but also supporting them directly through impactful initiatives like this,” he said.
Yusuf-Ogunleye added that the programme, which initially commenced at the senatorial district level, had been decentralised to local government areas to enhance accessibility.
“Our people appreciate this initiative, and it has become necessary to take it closer to them so that more residents can benefit,” he said.
He also urged Nigerians to remain patient with the ongoing reforms of the Federal Government.
Similarly, the Secretary of the group, Mr Rasheed Badmus, said the success recorded during the first phase informed the expansion of the programme.
“During the last phase, we saw the level of appreciation from the people.
“We reported back to our principal, Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, who approved the continuation across the state,” he said.
Badmus commended the minister for his support, describing the initiative as a demonstration of the dividends of democracy.
Also, the Director of Women Affairs of the group, Mrs Olamide Falana, said the outreach was aimed at addressing pressing health challenges at the grassroots.
Falana, who was represented by the Ondo North Women Coordinator, Bukunmi Akeju, commended Tunji-Ojo for prioritising the welfare of the people.
In the same vein, the group’s Director of Medical Services, Mrs Ajibola Susan, advised participants, particilarl women and the elderly, to adopt proper healthcare practices and preventive measures.(NAN) www.nannews.ng
