The Kogi State Government has confirmed the abduction of 24 children from an orphanage in the state, raising renewed concerns over security in the area.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Sunday, April 26, 2026, when gunmen invaded the facility and took the children to an unknown destination.
Confirming the development, the Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, described the attack as “unfortunate and disturbing,” assuring that security agencies have been fully mobilised to rescue the victims.
“We condemn in strong terms the abduction of innocent children from an orphanage. The government is working closely with security operatives to ensure their safe return,” he said.
He added that efforts are ongoing to track down the perpetrators, stressing that the state government will not relent until the children are safely reunited with their families and caregivers.
The Kogi State Police Command also confirmed the incident, noting that a joint security operation has been launched to rescue the abducted children and apprehend those responsible.
