The Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, has stepped up consultations ahead of the 2027 governorship race by holding a strategic meeting with the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

On Sunday 26, Hamzat, accompanied by key leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos, visited Gbajabiamila to seek support and guidance as he prepares for the contest.

Among those present were prominent party figures, including members of the Governance Advisory Council and former lawmakers.

Speaking after the meeting, Hamzat said the visit was part of wider consultations to strengthen his ambition and draw from Gbajabiamila’s experience. He noted that discussions focused on the future of Lagos and the need to sustain ongoing development in the state.

He added that his goal is to build on existing structures and ensure continuity in governance.

He said, “We discussed the direction of our state and the work needed to move it forward.”

He stressed that leadership comes with a shared responsibility to deliver better outcomes for residents.

On his part, Gbajabiamila confirmed receiving the deputy governor and his team, describing the meeting as a consultative engagement.

He said Hamzat’s capacity to lead Lagos was not in doubt. He added that more discussions would follow on how to move the state forward.

Gbajabiamila also assured him of support, emphasising that party leaders and stakeholders would play key roles in the process.

Earlier, some APC leaders at the meeting had appealed to the Chief of Staff to back Hamzat’s ambition while describing him as experienced in Lagos politics.

The move signals early political alignments within the ruling party as the race for Lagos governorship in 2027 begins to gather momentum.
